retinal health

At The Eye Galleria, we are pleased to announce the arrival of the NIDEK RETINA SCAN DUO™ 2 OCT (Optical Coherence Tomographer).

During our comprehensive eye examination, Bella routinely studies the whole of the eye to look for any sign of abnormalities.

Following installation of the remarkable Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT for short) we are now able to image the very back of your eye, allowing us to study your eyes in incredible detail from the top surface of your retina down to the underlying surfaces, not visible to us by other means.

Using the RETINA SCAN DUO™ 2 OCT

We have invested in the very latest technology.

OCT is an innovative imaging technique used to obtain high resolution 3D images of your retina. Our state of the art OCT imaging system provides exquisite details of retinal microstructures to assist in early detection & monitoring of various retinal diseases including Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Age Related Macular Degeneration, Retinal Detachments and much more.
Also by keeping records of these images for you we can compare them the next time you visit, year on year, which is extremely useful.

This technology monitors and scans the human retina, which is a thin and sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. This complex structure supplies the retina with blood. Everyone's retina is different - indeed, a set of identical twins do not share similar patterns. Sometimes, retinal patterns may be altered in the cases of diabetes, glaucoma or other retina degenerative disorders.
The scanner is 100% designed to give professionals an instant indication of eye health. It's a quick and comfortable non-invasive treatment for the patient. We get to see an amazing 3-D illustration of your eye with the OCT.

Thanks to the additional lens integrated to the instrument, taking a picture of the front of the eye is also possible.
The structures that can be observed in this mode are the external parts such as eyelids, eyelashes, lachrymal duct, cornea, iris, sclera.

Retinal screeners that digitally scan the eyes are very accurate and are one small step everyone can take to not only check-up on the health of their eyes, but indeed their overall health as high blood pressure and diabetes can be picked up by the optometrist using these instruments.

When you consider how precious our health is, and our sight, it's a logical step to enhance your eye exam with it.

OCT Retina Scan

Who should have the RETINA SCAN DUO™ 2 OCT

We recommend the OCT scan on everyone, as it is the only method by which we can truly check the health of the retina. It is generally recommended that you have the OCT scan every time you have an eye examination, but Bella will advise you based on your own individual circumstances.

Early detection will lead to timely treatment and better outcomes for the health of your eye and your overall health.

Having an OCT screening in combination with your normal eye test will allow us to obtain the most detailed information about your overall eye health.
A comprehensive eye health check can reveal early problems or changes in your eye that you may be unaware.

What to expect

The OCT scan is a very quick, painless process and should take no longer than a few minutes.
You are simply required to sit in one position and look at a target placed in front of you.
The device then takes numerous scans of your eyes which takes just a few minutes (nothing touches your eye at all).
The scan will end with a camera flash.
The entire image process requires no contact and no drops to be instilled in your eyes.
Bella will discuss your scans with you during your eye examination.
